What Wiconsin elected-hope the voters are happy

On Sunday afternoon behind closed doors, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed the most radical budget in Wisconsin history. Although the taxpaying public was blocked from the signing, hundreds protested outside as they had for months, while Walker silenced the voters and plowed forward with this agenda.

This budget will result in a major loss to the quality of life for the people of Wisconsin by crippling economic support systems for middle income and working class families and slashing education, health care and funds for local communities. This budget raises taxes on the working poor with children while lowering taxes for the elite and wealthy.

Budget Facts

* Gives billions in tax breaks to wealthy corporations, while slashing critical programs middle class families rely on.

* Increases taxes on seniors and the working poor by reducing the Homestead Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax (both traditionally bi-partisan programs that Ronald Reagan called the best tools to combat poverty).

* Increases property taxes by $483.8 million on Wisconsin families.

* Cuts billions for Wisconsin’s award winning public school system Cuts millions in support for the UW system, and local technical college system.

“This is a backward budget,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO.

It calls for tax breaks to the rich and wealthy corporations while increasing taxes on lower income Wisconsinites with children. This budget comes at a high social cost.
